Spring and Summer Fashion Choices

I haven't bought any clothes for a couple of months. For me, this is unheard of, but I'm trying to move away from random disposable purchases to awesome pieces that will make me unbelievably happy and last years.

A couple of things I'm majorly lusting after right now:

This 3.1 Phillip Lim dress that Leighton and Alexa are both wearing is unbelievable beautiful. At $495 it is just about out of my price range, but I'm still tempted. There is only a size 10 left on the Bergdorf website, or I might wander down to the store in Soho sometime this week to try it on and see if it is worth the pain.

I've asked my husband to get me every single item in this picture, including the hair. I don't know if he'll manage that, but I think I'll be wearing this dress this summer. I'm imagining it with bright white keds for day and a chunky heel for night...

This Coach heel looks both amazing and wearable. I can myself wearing it dresses or shorts all summer long. I went to the store today, and they are all sold out until May! I'll have to contain myself until then...

To continue on my amazingly preppy vibe that I have going on right now, this Kate Spade straw clutch looks beautiful and timeless. Large enough to fit my credit cards, some lipgloss and a blackberry, I'm more than sold :)

Mulberry Alexa Makes My Heart Beat Very Fast

I do not normally get obsessive over bags or shoes. I have 2 bags that I alternate between, and a cute clutch for night time. One of the bags that I have is a Mulberry Bayswater, which is a British classic. The only thing I wish for in the Bayswater is a shoulder strap. So when I heard a rumor about such a creation being in the works, I knew it would hurt my bank balance. Then, I read that it was being designed in conjunction with the lovely Alexa Chung, and I started setting aside cash. And then, woah, when I saw those pictures, I knew I had to have it. Now, if only I figure out how to track one down. I'm calling my home Mulberry store as I'm back in the UK in 2 weeks: Mulberry is usually a good bit cheaper at home than in the US. Question - Oak Leather, or Tweed?

Leather and Denim: Match Made in Heave

Ha ha ha, I made a rhyme!! And not even a good one. I wore this on Sunday which was very timely as the leather trousers fit right in with the rock and roll photography at the Brooklyn Museum. The yellow band on my wrist is not a live strong band; the Brooklyn Museum is so cool that it gives our wrist bands instead of tickets. Hipsters. I have worn these leather trousers over the last year more than I care to mention, and really more than should be appropriate for someone in their late 20s which is not super stick skinny. But I love them, and I won't stop wearing them either. The boots are from Madewell and were a Christmas present from my honey. They are soo uber cool. If only they were extra comfy, but I never find heels super comfortable. I think it is due to the first 25 years of my life existing in flipflops and converse. I got the shirt back in July from Topshop and have only worn it a couple of times. It is depressingly difficult to not look totally country in it. My coat is from J Crew and it gets worn well, every day. I love it. It makes me feel put together even though I rarely am.

As I type this, Moose the puppy is completely knocked out fast asleep on his bed. The reason that this is news is that Moose hasn't slept in his bed for over 3 months when he discovered the leaping power in his hind legs that propels him onto couches and beds, which are his preferred napping zones.

Anyway, here's some outfit shots we took on Sunday whilst hanging out in the dog run. We were supposed to be taking more photos but it didn't really end up that way. This is a close up of my awesome boots that Ori got me for Christmas. They are from Madewell, and a cool mix of utilitarian and heels.

This is a shot of my cardigan and you can see a glimpse of my tee. This is my favorite tee at the moment because of the sheerness, the loose fit and the chainmail pocket. Another one from Madewell.

Carey Mulligan in Vogue Looks Like a Cheeky Angel

I first started to pay attention to Carey Mulligan when An Education was released. She got a lot of press, and seemed to be genuinely intriguing. Her screen presence in An Education was literally mesmerizing. You could not take your eyes off her extremely expressive face. When I came across this spread in the January issue of Vogue (apart from Carey, completely disappointing. I could actually write a whole post on why the January 2010 Vogue is an embarrassment to Anna Wintour and Conde Nast, starting with that terrible cover), it was like a little ray of joy and light in an otherwise disappointing read. Anyway, these pictures display the fabulous quixotic nature of her beautiful, timeless face, how she is always and never herself. This shoot is a gorgeous display of fashion and art, and I love how Carey has thrown herself into it, rather than, as so many young female actresses are wont to do, staying safe and pretty. Love love love.
